The British people had decided to settle in Nilgiri District while British rule in India due to the climate. Because the climate of their country and Nilgiri District climate are more are less same.The British people had needed a vehicle to bring their things including construction materials and other items.So they had selected the Mountain Train to shift their items.

In order to build a railway track, new Railway Company was launched in the year 1855.Robert Miller, who served as the first president of this company.Totally Rs 25 Lakhs was invested for this work. A total distance of the railway track is 46.61 km.In which there are 212 bends, 16 caves, 31 big bridges and 219 small bridges.

Currently, the Scenic Mountain Train is operating from Mettupalayam to Ooty for the Tourist People.Mountain Train has been announced as a Heritage Train by the UNESCO Company.In India, Steam engines have abandoned and the trains are operating by the Diesel Engine and by Electrical power.But the Nilgiri Mountain Train operating from Mettupalayam to Coonoor is still powered by the Steam Engine driven by coal.

The last operated steam engine driven by the coal was brought from Mettupalayam to Coonoor on yesterday. Yesterday, this engine was safely brought to Coonoor around 12.30 pm in the afternoon. This old heritage Steam Engine will be kept as a memorial at Ooty Railway Station after the Workshop work.

“The Coal Steam Engine was brought from Mettupalayam to Coonoor. The Painting work of the engine has been done in Coonoor. This 130-year-old Steam engine will be kept as a memorial in Ooty Station,” The Salem Divisional Railway Manager Harishankarankar Verma said.
