Coffee Production in Nilgiris

Coffee production is more at Gudalore in Nilgiri District.The other Coffee production places in Nilgiri District includes Coonoor.There are two types of Coffee plants such as Arabica and Robusta. The farmers are highly planting the Robusta Type Coffee plants because less time and maintenance is enough for this type of coffee plants to grow.Robusto type coffee plants have planted only in few private estates of Gudalur.

This year the impact of the drought is more due to lack of rainfall.So the production of Coffee, Cardamom and Cloves in Gudalore area is severely affected.In addition, the vegetable production also affected without adequate rainfall.So the business of farmers and private estate companies was greatly affected.

As there is no monsoon rainfall in Nilgiris, so the impact of the snowfall was high on last month.The flowers in coffee plants were starts to bloom on the last month.If the flowers bloom on harvest season then the production will be highly affected.

There is a frequent rain in Gudalore and its surroundings for the past few weeks.So the flowers start to blossom at coffee plants.The farmers are hoping that they will get a more profit if the summer rainfall lasts few more days in Ooty.
