Ooty is usually overcrowded with tourists from various parts of the states during the peak season in April and May and during second season from September to December, but this time before the onset of the second season, thousands of tourists thronged the Ooty town due to the continuous holidays for the Independence Day.

The various sightseeing attractions such as Government Botanical Garden, Ooty Rose Garden, Pykara and Theppakadu Reception Center in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve witnessed huge crowd of tourists similar to that of the season time. Heavy traffic was reported on almost all roads leading to sightseeing places in Ooty and in particularly Commercial Road, Ettines Road, and Mysore Road. Many police personnel were deployed at Ooty, Coonoor, and Kotagiri to control the traffic problems in and around Nilgiris district.

The Tourism department has reported that almost 5,000 people had visited the Pykara Lake during this weekend. The horticultural department has reported that almost 50,000 people had visited the Ooty Botanical Garden for the past four days.

All the hotels, resorts, cottages and restaurants in Ooty had a good business in this weekend, as almost all the lodging hotels were booked in advance by the tourists mainly from Kerala and Karnataka through the internet portal. Even all the small lodges were booked out by the tourists.

The Nilgiris Hotel and Restaurant Association expects a similar kind of good business for the forth coming weekend with continuous holiday for Vinayaka Chathurthi. The tourism industry gear ups for the upcoming weekend to do good business with the overflowing tourists to Ooty.
