Nilgiris district usually receives heavy rainfall during northeast and southwest monsoons, so that the dams, waterfalls and rivers receive more water flow during these rainy season. But in the last two years, the district received only less rainfall which is below the normal rainfall level. This caused drying up of many lakes, rivers and waterfalls.

More specially, the kalhatti falls located on the Ooty to Mysore road, is dried up due to the insufficient rainfall during this year. The kalhatti falls which is one of the major attraction to the tourists coming to Ooty, usually witness heavy water flow during the month from June to December every year. But this year, the water flow in the kalhatti falls has decreased due to the lack of rainfall.

Tourists visiting the kalhatti falls were greatly disappointed this year to see very scanty water flow in the falls. Moreover, there is no proper maintenance of the way leading the viewpoint and kalhatti falls. This has created a great discomfort to the tourists.

Therefore, the tourists have requested the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to revamp the path to kalhatti waterfall and the way to the viewpoint.
