Due to insufficient food and water in the forest, many wild animals including elephants and deer enter the cultivated and agricultural lands in the villages near the border between gudalur and mudumalai tiger reserve. These animals move from forest and enter the village during the evening or night time, in search of food and this has caused panic among the village residents.

The wild animals have destroyed the banana, coconut and palm trees in the agricultural land and have caused great loss to the local farmers residing in gudalur. The public has raised complaint to mudumalai forest department, to take appropriate action to control the entry of wild elephants into the villages. Based on the complaint, the forest department has used kumki elephants to drive away the wild elephants into the forest.

Since only temporary solutions has been implemented by forest department to drive away the wild elephants into the forest, the frequent and continuous return of elephants into the village has become a common problem. The farmers and public people have demanded a strict action to be taken by the mudumalai forest department, to provide a permanent solution to the control the destruction of agricultural crops and trees by the wild elephants.
