Maintenance free John Sullivan Memorial Park

John Sullivan,the first collector of Nilgiri District had set up an office at Kannerimukku in Kotagiri in the year 1818.After that, he had set an office at Ooty in the year 1822,Ooty is the center part of the Nilgiri district.

Sullivan Office in Kannerimukku village was in screwing position,but now it becomes renovated and serves as the Nilgiri Documentation Archive with the corporation of District administrations and villagers.

All the aspects of early people including  culture , Industries, Roads, Water Bodies and construction has been displayed here.So the tourist who is all coming to Nilgiri district is visiting this place regularly.

Besides, the school and college students have also been using this Document Care Center for the research in their studies.The District collector Sankar inaugurated the statue of Sullivan in order to improve this tourist place.It is also planned to set up a Sullivan Memorial park at 3 acres of land in Kotagiri on Sullivan's memorial day(16th January).The district collector Sankar laid the foundation for a memorial park. 

The collector Sankar has said that the appropriate fund will be allocated from Hill Area Development Program  in order to improve memorial park by surrounding walls and by setting Children's park in the garden. 

As a first stage, the lands were leveled by cutting shrubs in the park.Due to lack of the fund, the works has been stopped.So the grass has grown in the foundation area of the park and it has loosened its blossoms.

As per the expectation of people, the government should take prior action within the second season to improve the park and Government is required to allocate the necessary funds for the same.
