Inspection of food products in Gudalur

The officials of the food safety department conducted a sudden inspection in various shopping complexes, bakeries, hotels and restaurants in gudalur in Nilgiris district, based on the complaints regarding sale of expired food products and cool drinks.

During the inspection, many expired food items, bakery items, snacks, and unpreserved meat and fish were seized by the district officer of food safety department.

The officials seized Rs.50,000 worth expired food products from various shops in gudalur and ooty and they destroyed the expired products in front of the public, to create awareness to prevent the sales of expired goods.

The food safety department also issued notices to the shops, bakeries and hotels selling expired food products in gudalur and warned that the shops would be sealed if sale of expired products continues.
