Landslide in ooty and gudalur

Nilgiris district has been witnessing heavy rainfall from the starting of June month. Even though the heavy downpour has made the farmers happy, it has also caused some havoc to ooty and gudalur. Landslides and tree fall are most common problems occurring during the rainy season. This year also, many areas in ooty and gudalur are mainly affected by landslides.

Pandalur, one of the small town in gudalur is worst affected by landslide. Due to the continuous rainfall and landslide, the foundation of many houses in pandalur has been damaged and cracks were formed on the houses.

Public have demanded the district administration to built retaining walls to protect the houses from landslides during the rainfall. They have also complained that the restoration work to build retaining walls was not started, even though the fund has been allocated from the government.

Public and motorists have urged the transport department to clear the soil piles and muddy water on the roads and have demanded action to renovate the damaged roads in ooty.
