The Forest department of Nilgiris has initiated a search operation to find and capture a lion-tailed macaque which has bit two children in Manjacombai village in Kundah Forest Range. The District Forest Officer of Nilgiris South Division has ordered the forest staff to capture the macaque quickly. The cages with fruits have been placed in several places in the village to trap the animal.

The macaque is one of the most endangered primates and it usually lives on the top of the trees. Though search operation is in progress, the forest officials said that they have not spotted the animal in the village for last couple of days. The forest officials have also planned to begin the search operation in the nearby forest ranges to trap the animal as soon as possible, in order to protect the public from the macaque.
