Water FallsUpdated by : Travel2ooty on December/20/2016

Coonoor- Mettupalayam Road carved on british period. One can enjoy the natural views while travelling through this mountain road. There are few falls located along the mountain, where the flow of water will be more in monsoon season.

The falls are the visual treat for the one who will travel along this route. So the tourists used to park their vehicles along the roadside and they used to take photographs by standing on the rocks near falls. One week before there was continuous rain for three days in Coonoor and its surrounding areas. Due to rain, there was a high flow of water in all the dried waterfalls which were located on Coonoor-Mettupalayam road.

The total count of waterfalls from Kattery to Barliyar is 10.Especially the waterfalls in four places including Marappalam and K.N.R Nagar are the tallest waterfalls located in Ooty. In recent days the water flow is more in those waterfalls. The tourist shows more interest to take photographs by standing on the rocks near falls. They are playing in waterfalls without knowing the risk level.

The rocks near falls are slippery. But the tourists are trying to go near and used to take selfie photos by standing on the rocks. A few years back three tourists were slipped while taking bath at Law falls and died. So warning boards (do not take bath in falls) has been placed near Laws falls in order to prevent accidents.

As the warning boards not placed near the falls which are located near Marappalam, so the tourists are involved in playing and taking photographs near falls without knowing the risk. This may cause accidents. Thus the public is demanding the respective authorities to keep the warning boards near the falls by considering the security of the tourists.
