Roof building works in Coonoor Railway Station

Coonoor Railway Station was built during British period.40 years ago this Coonoor Railway Station becomes main railway junction between Ooty and Mettupalayam.At that time steam engine was used to run the train.The train had operated from Mettupalayam and Coonoor to Ooty by using Coal Steam Engine.  

 

The engines replacement of the train which had operated from Ooty to Mettupalayam held at Coonoor Railway Station on British period.That is why Coonoor railway station being used as a railway junction between Ooty and Mettupalayam and where the engine replacement had carried out during British rule.Even now the steam engine of the train has been replaced with the diesel engine at Coonoor station which is operated from Mettupalayam to Ooty.Similarly, the diesel engine has replaced by the steam engine at the same Coonoor Station while operating from Ooty to Coonoor.

 

Since there was only one platform in Coonoor Station for the passengers to get down from the train, the passengers are struggling to get down when two trains stop at Coonoor Station.So the tourists and public were demanded the railway administration to set a second platform at Coonoor Station.Fifteen years ago the second platform had set up at Coonoor station.

 

As there is no roof in the second platform of Coonoor station, so the passengers getting wet during rainy days. The Salem division of southern railway administration had decided to set a roof on the second platform.Rs 8 Lakh fund was allocated to do this work.The works are in process and it has been planned to complete this work before the beginning of summer season.
